Mission Statement

First Baptist Church of Pine Island exists to glorify God by multiplying God-centered, Christ-exalting, world-transforming believers through the Gospel in the greater Pine Island area and around the world.

Statement of Faith
We Believe:
  • We believe the Bible is the Word of God which is fully inspired, inerrant, and our only authority in matters of faith and conduct.
  • We believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons:  Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  God the Father is an infinite, personal spirit perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love.  Jesus Christ is God's only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit.  We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, and teachings.  We believe in His substitutionary atoning death and His bodily resurrection.  We believe that He is Fully God and Fully Man.  The Holy Spirit came forth from the Father and the Son to convict the world of sin, and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower all who believe in Jesus Christ.
  • We believe that all people are sinners by nature and by choice and are therefore under God's condemnation.  Those who repent and trust in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord are new creatures, forgiven of their sins, delivered from condemnation, and have entered into a right relationship with God, having received and been given eternal life.
  • We believe the local church is a community of believers in Christ, who are baptized on profession of faith, and associated in worship, fellowship, witnessing, and making disciples.
  • We believe that the Lord's Supper is for all believers to partake in as a memorial to Christ's finished work of propitiation.
  • We believe in an appropriate Christian lifestyle which keeps the Bible as its guide for the promotion of the cause of Christ.
  • We believe in the imminent, personal, visible return of Jesus, the resurrection of the body of Christ and the final judgement of all persons.

Autonomy

We adhere to the principle of the autonomy of the local church.  We are self-governing in all areas of church life.  The Leadership of the church is responsible to lead the church in all matters.  The Leadership consists of the Pastor, Deacons, Trustees, and the Board.

Affiliations

We adhere to the understanding of Biblical doctrine as expressed in the Baptist Faith and Message of 2000.  We voluntarily and officially affiliate ourselves with the Southern Baptist Convention, the Florida Baptist Convention, and the Royal Palm Baptist Association.  We support mission enterprises throughout the world by our contributions to the Cooperative Program and by supporting our own missionaries locally and abroad.

Our Story

First Baptist Church of Pine Island began in 1962.  Through the past six decades one thing has always remained the foundation of our church, the Word of God.  It is our very source of life for it tells us about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Everything we do in ministry and worship is based on His Word.  Therefore, we do not add to or take away from what has been inspired by God for our good.  Our church has been a light to the community in numerous ways, but our aim is to help each individual grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ our Lord.  That is fundamental.  We can not reach the world, if we ourselves are not grounded in the truth of His Word.

FBCOPI is part of the Southern Baptist Association, specifically our local affiliation with the Royal Palm Baptist Association in Fort Myers.  That being said our church is self governing, with a Board, Deacons, Trustees, and Missions Team who lead their particular area of ministry.  Individuals from the congregation can request to the Deacons to become members of the church who would have voting rights for staff, finances, building improvements, missionary support, etc.
